Police in the southwestern English town of Plymouth, Devon, reported a “serious firearm incident”, “many deaths” and “several” others injured in treatment, the BBC reported.
“Several people died on the spot, and several other victims received medical treatment,” police said.
According to preliminary data, five people were killed in the shooting, Sky News reported.
The alleged shooter was shot dead by law enforcement officers. The incident happened around 18:10 local time. It is not considered an act of terrorism.
The area is seceded. Rescue teams are working on site.
A witness who lives near Bidick Drive, the shooting area, told the BBC: “First there were shouts followed by shots – three, probably four to begin with. This was when the shooter kicked the door of a house and randomly started shoot … he ran away from the house, firing while running, and continued to shoot several people. “
Interior Minister Priti Patel described the incident as shocking. She wrote on Twitter that her thoughts were with those who were injured in the shooting. She urged citizens to remain calm and follow police instructions.
