He also has to pay a fine of almost $ 1 million
Former k-pop singer Seungri has been sentenced to three years in prison and fined nearly $ 1 million for crimes, including providing prostitutes to potential investors, world news agencies reported.
The trial was preceded by a major scandal involving pop stars, businessmen and police officers who allegedly set up a network to evade taxes, bribes and prostitution in some of the most expensive clubs in Seoul’s prestigious Gangnam district.
Seungri, 30, was a star with the band “Big Bang” until an investigation was launched against him for providing prostitutes, money laundering and illegal betting.
The musician was drafted into the army last year, so the case was being heard by a military court. He denied the charges, but was found guilty of nine of them.
“Big Bang” was among the very popular k-pop groups. Seungri was also involved in another business, which was extremely profitable, but the scandal forced him to retire from the entertainment industry in 2019, reminds BTA.
Other musicians were involved in the scandal, as well as the YG ENTERTAINMENT agency.
