Marburg virus appears similar to Ebola, WHO: Death rate up to 88%

TRIBUNNEWS.COM – The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning about the emergence of the Marburg virus.

Marburg virus is a malignant disease that causes dengue fever.

Citing the official page WHO, the Marburg virus is said to have a mortality rate of up to 88%.

The WHO says the Marburg virus belongs to the same family as the virus Ebola.

A new case of the Marburg virus was recently reported in Guinea.

It was reported a patient sought treatment at a local clinic last week and died shortly thereafter.

This is the first known case of Marburg virus disease in Guinea and in West Africa.

according to WHO, previously the Marburg virus first appeared in Marburg, and Frankfurt Germany, and in Belgrade, Serbia in 1967.

The outbreak is linked to laboratory work using African green monkeys (Cercopithecus aethiops) imported from Uganda.

Since then, outbreaks and sporadic cases have been reported in Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, South Africa (in a person with a history of travel to Zimbabwe) and Uganda.
