WhatsApp announced, this Wednesday (11), a new feature that allows the transfer of conversations from Android phone to iPhone (iOS) and vice versa. According to the company, this was one of the functions most requested by platform users.

The feature aims to facilitate the transfer of conversation history from the app when the user changes the mobile operating system.

The function will be released in the coming weeks for Android initially, and for Samsung’s newest Galaxy phones, with Android 10 or higher. According to the company, the forecast is that the feature will also be available for iPhones soon.

All WhatsApp messages are encrypted end-to-end by default and stored on the device. As a result, migrating WhatsApp conversation history across platforms requires additional work from WhatsApp, those responsible for mobile operating systems and device manufacturers.

“We are excited to be able to securely facilitate the transfer of WhatsApp conversation history from one operating system to another for the first time. This has been one of the most requested features by users for years and WhatsApp has worked closely with operating systems and device manufacturers to address it,” said Sandeep Paruchuri, Product Manager at WhatsApp.
