Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Government Myanmar has not planned to include the Rohingya ethnic minority group living in the camps in the Covid-19 vaccination program. In fact, the vaccination process has started in the western Rakhine State.
Local administrator Kyaw Lwin said the vaccination program had started in the city of Sittwe with a total of 10,000 vaccines being given to priority groups such as the elderly, health workers, government staff and Buddhist monks. However, there are no Rohingya groups in the vaccination plan in the city of Sittwe.
“We are just following orders,” he said briefly to Reuters quoted on Wednesday (11/8/2021).
He also did not comment much when it was confirmed whether the plan included acts of discrimination against the Rohingya group.
“It all depends on how many vaccines we receive and the instructions we get. So far we haven’t received any instructions on that,” Kyaw Lin said.
Meanwhile, Myanmar’s Ministry of Health Spokesperson and military authorities have not yet officially responded to the vaccination plan that does not include the Rohingya group.
