This is the story of Toledo de Kerser, a Selle Français horse, born at Kerser breeding in 2007, in Bazas (Gironde), today Olympic champion for England.
The equine became a real champion in its discipline where it won the silver medal in the individual eventing of the JO de Tokyo. Not stopping there, he even allowed England to pocket gold in the team eventing.
His beginnings at Bazas
Émeline Duban and Jean-Claude Sorasio, who work at the Kerser farm, say:
“He is the result of a show jumping mare (show jumping) which belonged to the owners of the breeding and a number 1 sire stallion in the show jumping world. Toledo stayed at Bazas for 4 years and we have already noticed that he was difficult to handle and that he had a strong character. He is a very dynamic horse, even too dynamic, who needs to let off steam and suddenly he did not want to let himself be dominated by the man ”
Its first buyer, Mickaël Varliaud, detects the potential of Toledo who joins Angoulême to make obstacles. The horse is subsequently sold to an English owner who does not get by with the temperament of the animal.
He launched his international career
The English owner resells Toledo to another person who places him in boarding with Tom Mc Ewen, the rider with whom he won medals at the Olympics. Emeline Duban specifies:
“Mc Ewen understood that Toledo needed to let off steam and do a lot of outdoors. This is why the eventing consisting of dressage, cross country and jumping has become his discipline.
Two years ago, the Bazadais champion took part in the 5-star eventing competition in Pau (only four to five competitions in the world are of this level).
Selected for the Olympics
Jean Claude Sorasio looks back on the last performances of the Bazadais champion:
“We went to see him at the Pau competition. This is how we reconnected with him. He finished 2nd last year and 5th this year »
In view of these results, Toledo logically takes part in the Tokyo Olympics, which Émeline Duban and Jean-Claude Sorasio followed attentively, even late at night:
“He did a clear round, got on time in cross country, finished 6th in dressage and completed two perfect events in jump, one counting for the individual and the other for the team”
The two actors of Kerser are proud to relate the exploits of an Olympic medalist born in Bazas:
“We were all in front of our TV. We are very happy that a horse from our breeding has reached such a level. We have other horses which do very good results in show jumping with jumps to 130 or 140 cm in competition. But the Olympics are different ”
