The “Covid Passport” has been required since July 21 to visit cinemas, theaters, museums and other cultural institutions, but from Monday it will also be required in many other places.
The new requirements are intended to encourage more people to be vaccinated against Covid-19 and to slow down the spread of the coronavirus. At present, most cases of Covid-19 in France are caused by the coronavirus delta type.
In France, more than 36 million people, or more than 54% of the population, have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
The “Covid Passport” in France can be obtained by people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19, become ill or have recently taken a Covid-19 test with negative results.
The new rules will also apply to tourists visiting France.
A “Covid Passport” is also required in hospitals, both for patient visitors and for people visiting a doctor. The exception is people who need urgent medical attention.
From today, passengers on high-speed trains, intercity trains and night trains carrying more than 400,000 people a day will also have to present “Covid passports”. They will also be needed for long-distance and bus passengers.
French Transport Minister Jean-Baptiste Jebari has announced that compliance with the new rules will be closely monitored.
In France, Covid passports will be accepted in both digital and paper formats.
Meanwhile, the French football club “Saint-Germain” in Paris is allowed to host 49,700 fans in the first home game of the season, who will have to present “Covid passports”.
Polls show that most French support Covid passports, but there are also many opponents of the new rules, and there have been widespread protests against Covid passports in Paris and elsewhere in France over the past four weekends.
France has also decided that all healthcare workers must be vaccinated against covid-19 from 15 September.
