WhatsApp’s new feature could be dangerous

With the feature it launched this week, WhatsApp provided its users with the opportunity to view photos and videos once. This feature was first seen on Snapchat, then on Instagram, which is under the same roof with WhatsApp. However, cybersecurity experts warned that the feature should be added to WhatsApp as well.

According to the news in Internet Haber, cyber security experts emphasized that the latest feature added to WhatsApp may be dangerous.

‘YOU MAY NOT HAVE NEWS’

When this feature is used on Snapchat, you will be shown a warning that the other party can take screenshots. If the other party takes a screenshot from the video or photo you sent, you will be notified. However, this is not the case for WhatsApp. When you use the feature for the first time, you are told that you can take a screenshot of the other party, and nothing more than that. In other words, if the other party takes a screenshot of the photo you sent, you will not know about it.

For example, if you send your spouse your credit card information with this feature, they will probably take a screenshot to keep the numbers in mind. However, you sent it as a disposable image so that the credit card information is not saved on the phone. When your card information is saved on your spouse’s phone, your card information is in danger in case of a possible cyber attack. Examples of this are common in hacked iCloud accounts.

In this case, there is no point in sending photos or videos that can be opened once for security purposes; The warning of experts is not to trust this feature for privacy. Although it is not inconvenient to send photos that are not very important, there will always be a risk from which platform the photos that are important are sent.

While the discussions continue, WhatsApp has not yet made a statement on the subject.
