There have long been discussions about whether there should be a salary cap because of the skyrocketing player salaries. Now Oliver Kahn (52) is also campaigning for it.
In the WELT am SONNTAG interview, the Bayern boss says: “There has to be a salary cap, an upper salary limit. Several models are being discussed, some approaches could be adopted from the system in US professional sport. “
A “hard cap”, a hard limit, would be possible. Kahn: “For example, there could be a fixed amount as a salary limit for the entire squad of a club.”
As an alternative, Kahn calls a “soft cap”: expenses must be linked to the income or sales of the club. Only a certain percentage should be spent on salaries.
