WeChat is a staple in Chinese digital life because it is basically used in a very similar way to our WhatsApp. However, that does not stop the country’s government from cracking down on the behavior of the courier giant. Beijing prosecutors sued Tencent over claims that WeChat’s restricted ‘child mode’, Engadget says violates laws that protect children. The lawsuit did not explain how this feature violates the law.
Youth fashion prevent children from accessing payments, finding close friends, and playing certain games. It is indeed a tool for Parental control for a “super app” capable of handling many daily tasks in China.
Tencent has not commented on the lawsuit. Recently, he set tighter limits for young Honor of Kings players, limit their playing time to just one hour a day on weekdays.
The trial could be part of a larger offensive. Chinese state media criticized the gaming industry and online platforms this week, and officials have already demanded better protections against online threats against children.. The country has also focused much of its attention on controlling tech giants like Tencent, Alibaba and Didi, imposing antitrust fines and temporary app bans on them; the trial may be an extension of this effort.
