Shots were fired in three different places around Antwerp in the night from Friday to Saturday. A house in Deurne and a night shop on the Kiel came under fire. In Borsbeek, the police fired a shot at a suspicious vehicle. A light grenade was found in the driveway of the house in Deurne a month ago.

The series of shooting incidents started around one o’clock, when the police received a call from the Bisschoppenhoflaan in Deurne. A house there was attacked. “One of the residents called the police,” said Lieselotte Claessens, spokeswoman for the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office. “There were about a dozen people in the house at the time. No one was injured.” The lab found a single bullet impact in a garage door.
“We really don’t understand why this is happening to us again,” said one resident. A month ago a passer-by found a light grenade in the driveway of the house. “My son is a fugitive. The police have been here several times to look for him, but we don’t know where he is. I’ve also asked the police to check here more. We are really tired of this.”
Afraid of the shooting incident? “Absolutely not. We are hard-working people and have no connection with criminals at all, so we’re just going to keep doing our thing.”

Night shop on the Kiel
At 2 p.m., police received another report of a shooting. This time the night shop Kwik-E-Markt on Boomsesteenweg on Kiel was the target. “I was literally shot out of bed,” says a local resident. “I went to the window to see what had happened and just heard someone yell, Come back if you dare.”
Three bullet impacts were visible in the shutters, the window and the facade.

Roadblock in Borsbeek
Following the shooting in Deurne, the police had set up a roadblock, including one in Cantincrodelaan in Borsbeek. “A suspicious vehicle wanted to drive into the barrier at high speed. The police fired a shot at the vehicle,” says Claessens. The bullet went into the door behind the passenger.
The car managed to escape and fled in the direction of the Netherlands. The police in the Netherlands were alerted and took over the pursuit. The car was eventually found abandoned on the Cesar Domelastraat in Rotterdam. It was a white Volkswagen Golf with a Dutch number plate. There was no trace of the occupants.
Attempted homicide
“For the two shooting incidents in Deurne and on the Kiel, an investigating judge has been appointed for attempted murder and violations of weapons legislation,” said Claessens. “The attempted murder is because, at the time of the shooting at the house in Deurne, about ten people were present in the house.”
The investigating judge is investigating whether the three shooting incidents are connected. “As always, a link with the drug environment is being investigated,” Claessens says.
