The US women’s basketball team won the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday, triumphing in the seventh consecutive Olympics.
In the USA title race, with a result of 90:75 (23:14, 27:25, 25:17, 15:19), Japan won the home, which surprisingly reached the finals.
Sue Byrda ended her 17-year Olympic career with five gold medals, the same as for Diana Taurasi, both of whom have a record-breaking honor. Berda and Taurasi won all 38 Olympic Games in which they participated.
Britney Grainer was the most productive in the US national team, scoring 30 points, Brian Stewart backed with 14 points and 14 rebounds, and Edge Wilson had 19 points and seven balls under the baskets.
In the Japanese national team, Maki Takada scored 17 points, while Nako Motohashi scored 16 points.
The US women’s team became the nine-time Olympic champion on Sunday. The seven titles in a row are a record for the men’s team, with the United States running this Olympic gold series from 1936 to 1968. With the 1992 bronze medal match, US basketball players began a series of 55 victories, which they look forward to continuing three years later in Paris.
In the bronze match on Saturday, France defeated Serbia with the result 91:76 (19:23, 24:17, 24:16, 24:20).
The Olympic tournament featured 12 teams, which were first divided into three subgroups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group, as well as two of the three third place winners, made it to the quarterfinals.
