Ascoli Piceno, 6 August 2021 – “We have defeated this ‘great son of p …’ too! It is difficult to find words to describe how grateful I am to you for all the affection received”. One week fromheart attack that hit him, Friday 30 July, a San Benedetto del Tronto (video), Gaetano Curreri keep improving atMazzoni Hospital of Ascoli Piceno and, through the social networks, he sends a message of thanks to all those who supported and cared for him.
Curreri, who will soon be discharged, sends his message quoting the title of one of the first hits of the Stadio, ‘Great son of a bitch‘ of the 1981. Curreri, who publishes a photo of him in the room with his thumb raised, dedicates “a special thanks to a true ‘generation of phenomena’ (another song from the Stadio; ed) who promptly helped me on stage”. Finally, the singer also wanted to thank “his lifelong companions”, Roberto Drovandi e Andrea Fornili, as well as the manager Laura Cordischi.

The singer, frontman, composer of the Stadio, the legendary Bolognese rock band, author of numerous hits and before that Lucio Dalla’s accompaniment group, was on the stage set up in the upper town of San Benedetto, with the Soling Strinq Quartet (Vincenzo Di Donna, Luigi De Maio, Gerardo Marrone and Antonio Di Francia) performing the songs One day you will tell me, Surprise me, I’m just words, Before leaving for a long journey, A sense, in the concert which is a passionate tribute to the songwriting, which offers style and elegance, ranging to 360 degrees in the panorama of great Italian music, embellished by the numerous successes written by Curreri for the Stadio, for Vasco Rossi, Patty Pravo, Irene Grandi, Lucio Dalla and Noemi: with them there were also the bassist Roberto Drovandi and the guitarist Andrea Fornili .
They had offered moments of great interpretation and great music. Impossible not to give an encore with lots of applause, and that’s what Curreri did, not before getting rid of the jacket worn up to that moment, despite the really high temperatures that plagued the area in those days. And that’s just as he sang the song “Piazza Grande” that the singer-songwriter began to stammer, resuming the verse. It seemed that he had lost the thread of the text on the lectern, since at the beginning of the concert it was the artist himself who commented on the absolute need to use the same, due to his lack of memory.
A few seconds later, however, here he is again stammering and staggering, collapsing, immediately supported by the members of his band, who prevented the artist from falling to the ground. Then the first aid, provided by a doctor from Ascoli dottor Mauro Mario Mariani, who was attending the concert, and those, later, of the 118 doctors who once stabilized accompanied him in self-ambulance to the Mazzoni Hospital in Ascoli Piceno, to the Cardiological Intensive Care Unit, where he was operated on the aorta by Dr. Pierfrancesco Grossi, where right from the start, he was able to meet family members, in particular his sister Gilda, who was in the audience in San Benedetto del Tronto.
Therefore, his conditions continue to improve, between the affection and good wishes that continue to reach the Bolognese singer-songwriter from friends and colleagues and his audience on social networks, who did not fail to support the singer, urging him not to give up.
