Elīna Ose, the artistic director, singer and music author of the project “Kuolm randõ / Three Shores”, tells about the new single that, inspired by Valt Ernstreet’s poetry and the Liv coast, she wanted to bring to life a strong story about Livs in modern chamber music and dedicate it to her inspirers and teachers. To the Ernstreite family, as well as to the entire Liv family.
The Liv language is the language of Latvia’s indigenous peoples, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a critically endangered language. The poet State Ernstreits says: “The poem” Seliz does not tend to “has become a reflection on the Livs’ ability not to stop, but to keep going, no matter how vague the road may seem at times, about their ability to germinate again and again, even when there seems to be no Livs Nowadays, the poem has turned into a song that is as complex and simple as this Liv way through the centuries.
The single “Seļizizt nemē measuring / Like us” is a musical greeting in anticipation of the Liv festival in Mazirbe, which takes place every year on the first weekend of August. The single is also the first musical magazine from the upcoming studio album of the project “Kuolm randõ / Three Shores”.
The song was recorded by: Elīna Ose (vocals), Staņislavs Judins (double bass), Austris Kalniņš (keyboards) and Ernests Mediņš (percussion).
The poem “Seļizizt nemē mēg / As Like Us”, from Valt Ernstreit’s bilingual poetry collection of the same name published in 2019, is a source of inspiration not only for the song, but also for the idea of the concert program “Kuolm randõ / Three Shores”, which for the first time as experimental project –
Revival of the Liv language in chamber music – was performed at the international conference LIVONICA 2019 at the Liv Institute of the University of Latvia and successfully premiered in full version at the Liv Culture Days on October 10, 2020 in Ventspils Concert Hall “Latvia”.
The concert program of the project “Kuolm randõ / Three Shores” will be heard on August 12 at 20:30 in Zvejniekciems at the mouth of the Aģe sea and on November 19 in Mazirbe during the Liv flag festival at the Liv People’s House.
