Lionel Messi has left Barcelona as a free agent and PSG remain favorites, especially after leaving clues on social media, with Manchester City, Inter and Juventus also linked over the years.
The Blaugrana released an official statement tonight confirming that their star man would not continue at the club and refused to sign the new deal after further problems surfaced in the agreement.
He was already a free agent from June 30th when he won the Copa America with Argentina this summer.
Now the question arises, where will he go in the future? There are very few clubs that can sign the Ballon d’Or winner, especially with his € 30m per season salary.
That makes PSG the favorite, especially after Messi posed for photos on Instagram with Marco Verratti, Angel Di Maria, Neymar and Leandro Paredes.
It wouldn’t be the first free signing of the Ligue 1 giants this summer, who have also signed Gianluigi Donnarumma from Milan, Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid and former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum for free.
For full-back Achraf Hakimi they paid € 60 million plus up to € 11 million surcharges to Inter.
Manchester City remain an option, particularly with former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola at the helm, but they appear close to spending over € 200m on two deals for England internationals Harry Kane and Jack Grealish.
Inter have long been associated with Messi over the years, dating back to the era of Massimo Moratti when he was not yet considered a GOAT.
It resurfaced recently when a Chinese television station released Inter games with a picture of Messi’s shadow over Milan Cathedral.
However, considering that they are in an even worse financial position than Barcelona, they could not afford that salary.
Juventus is a fascinating idea, especially if Cristiano Ronaldo left, but then he would probably only go to PSG anyway.
