Coronavirus cases and hospitalizations on the rise in Belgium
Between July 27 and August 2, Belgium registered 1,623 new cases of covid-19 daily, an increase of 10% compared to the previous 7 days. In the Brussels region the rise was especially pronounced, with 310.3 new cases a day between July 27 and August 2, 18% more than in the previous week.
In addition, a mean of 36.6 hospitalizations per day in the country between July 30 and August 5, an increase of 16% compared to the previous period. Regarding deaths, between July 27 and August 2 an average of 3.7 people died per day as a consequence of the virus, which brings to 25,264 the number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
According to the Flemish public television VRT, 7 people from a nursing home in Zaventem, all vaccinated, died in the last 2 weeks after being infected for a new variant of coronavirus, known as Colombian, an outbreak that is already under control, the same media said.
