Sales of foldable phones this year are predicted to triple compared to 2020.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Folding phones are expected to be popular again. Counterpoint Research said that the global folding screen phone market is predicted to increase three times from the previous year.
Sales of foldable phones are predicted to reach 9 million units in 2021. As many as 88 percent of them are the Samsung market.
“We estimate delivery smartphone fold Samsung in 2021 will grow significantly, driven by improved design and hardware, as well as competitive prices,” said a Counterpoint Research representative, reported by Yonhap.
Counterpoint Research also forecasts the market smartphone fold worldwide in 2023 to be 10 times larger than in 2020. Even if more manufacturers enter the market, including Apple, Samsung is expected to still maintain its main player status with 75 percent market share.
Currently, Samsung is also scheduled to introduce its new foldable smartphones, namely the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3. Samsung hints that the upcoming foldable smartphone has great multitasking capabilities.
“With the significant price drop, improved design and appearance, Samsung is likely to target younger customers with its new foldable Flip smartphone,” said Park Jin-suk, senior analyst at Strategy Analytics.
Regarding the US market, Counterpoint Research said Samsung’s foldable smartphone should be launched at a lower price to attract consumers.”Smartphone Samsung’s more affordable foldables may appeal to some users, especially those who have previously purchased a ‘plus’ or ‘ultra’ sized Note or S series model,” they said.
