According to Khan, who is also a member of the High Council for National Reconciliation, the Taliban do not believe in human rights.

According to him, their targets were detained soldiers, police officers, tribal leaders and civilians, including a popular comedian, all of whom they suspected had links to the Afghan government.

Khan said the Taliban militia forcefully took the victims out of their homes and then carried out the executions.

“They probably killed 800 to 900 people in the last month and a half. People have suffered a lot. [Spin] Boldak,” said Khan, quoted Friday (6/8/2021).

The Taliban have retaken control of most of Kandahar province, including the capital, as the group continues a violent power struggle amid the withdrawal of US-led foreign troops. This contradicts their earlier statement that the group is committed to resolving the conflict peacefully.

On Tuesday, an eye witness and a source in the Kabul police told Sputnik that a car was detonated near the home of Defense Minister Bismillah Khan Mohammadi, after which several gunmen entered the premises. Later that day, the minister confirmed that neither he nor his family were injured. However, the attack did take the lives of eight people and injure 20 others.
