“I will dedicate myself to serving the people, to the honor of the state, to promoting religion and morality, and to supporting truth and justice,” Raisi said.
He also said he would support any diplomatic plans to lift US sanctions on Iran.
“Sanctions against Iran must be lifted. We will support any diplomatic plans that achieve this goal,” Raisi told parliament.
He also stressed that pressure and sanctions would not force Iran to deviate from its “legal rights”.
Raisi replaces Hasan Ruhani as President.
Raisi won the June presidential election with almost 62% of the vote.
Five candidates ran in the election, including only one reformer, former central bank president Abdolnaser Hemmati.
Raisi is expected to present the composition of the new government soon.
Raisi used to work as a prosecutor and is believed to be responsible for the arrest and punishment of many political dissidents.
Although little is known about his political views, in recent years Raisi has sharply criticized Ruhani’s moderate course, including the 2015 nuclear deal with the world’s powers.
