Due to a technical malfunction earlier, many positive corona tests have been registered in the past 24 hours. The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) received 3,402 reports of new cases between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning. Due to the positive tests that have now been passed, “the daily figures are higher than actual today”, according to the institute.
RIVM reported more than 2800 cases on Wednesday, more than 2200 on Tuesday and just over 2100 on Monday. It is common for the number of positive tests to increase during the week.
The average is still falling. In the past seven days, 19,247 people have tested positive, which is about 2,750 per day. That is the lowest level since July 8, almost a month ago. The average falls for the seventeenth day in a row.
Most positive tests in Rotterdam
Rotterdam had the most positive tests. In the Maasstad, 294 residents were informed that they had become infected. For Rotterdam, that is the highest number in two weeks. Furthermore, 266 Amsterdammers heard that they contracted the corona virus. Then follow The Hague (121), Haarlemmermeer (65), Utrecht (61) and Almere (51). In 25 municipalities, not a single resident tested positive.
Deaths
In the past day, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) registered the death of 11 corona patients. That is the highest number in almost two months. The fact that these deaths have now been reported does not mean that people have died in the past 24 hours. The registration can also take a while without interference.
In the past week, 35 deaths from corona have been registered, an average of five per day. That is the highest level since June 11. But it is nothing compared to the situation at the turn of the year, just before the start of the vaccination campaign. Then there were over a hundred reports of deaths a day.
Slightly more corona patients in hospitals
The number of corona patients in Dutch hospitals increased slightly on Thursday, after the decrease a day earlier. There are now 673 covid patients there, eleven more than Wednesday, according to figures from the National Coordination Center for Patients Spreading (LCPS).
On Wednesday, the number of corona patients fell for the first time in three weeks. In recent weeks, more corona patients have been added to hospitals by the day.
There are now 474 patients with covid-19 in the nursing wards, four more than Wednesday. On the ICs, the number of seriously ill corona patients increased by seven to 199. “Covid occupation in the IC is following an increasing trend, although the first signs of a turning point may appear to be visible,” the LCPS said in a statement.
In the past 24 hours, 73 new corona patients entered the nursing wards. 24 patients were admitted to the ICUs. Due to crowds, four corona patients had to be transferred to hospitals in other parts of the country last 24 hours.
