The soccer women from the USA won the “small final” in Tokyo. The world champions beat Australia on Thursday (August 5th, 2021) just 4: 3 (3: 1). Megan Rapinoe scored first with a directly converted corner kick (8th) and later with a volley (21st). Long-running Carli Lloyd (45th + 1 / 51st) also scored twice. In the meantime, Sam Kerr (17th) equalized for Australia, Caitlin Foord (54th) and Emily Gielnik (90th) made it exciting again. Two games have been postponed due to the heat: The women’s final will now be played at 9 p.m. Japanese time (2 p.m. CEST) instead of 11 a.m. The men’s bronze match (Mexico – Japan) has been moved up from 8 p.m. to 6 p.m. (11 a.m. CEST) so that the games don’t overlap. | 05.08.2021 15:15
