Worms in the eyes: a rare disease was recorded in three residents of Kiev

In three residents of Kiev, doctors identified a rare parasitic disease – dirofilariasis. Of these – 2 residents of the Darnytskyi region and 1 resident of the Dnieper region, 2 men and 1 woman. About it informs press service of the State Institution Kyiv City Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

The disease is caused by roundworms (parasitic worms that live in the human body) of the genus Dirofilaria. The disease is characterized by the formation of subcutaneous nodules or nodular lesions of the pulmonary parenchyma.

“Helminths 11.0, 7.0 and 12 cm in size (fragment) were surgically removed from the left eye (in two cases), the right bone (in one case),” the message says.

As previously reported, in Kherson from under the skin of four residents seized parasites 17 cm long.
