The Provincial Delegation of Renatre (National Registry of Rural Workers and Employers) recently participated in a virtual training on Good Agricultural Practices in Virginia Tobacco Farming, where the issues of transplantation and Agricultural tractor were discussed.

The training was given by professionals from the Superintendency of Labor Risks (SRT) and the insurance company Latitud Sur within the framework of the National Prevention Program by branch of activity (Pro.Na.Pre.).

In this regard, the head of Renatre Jujuy, Ing. Jorge Rois, pointed out “work in the tobacco industry presents various risks depending on the characteristics of the cultural work carried out during the production times.”

For this reason “in this first training we address the most frequent risks associated with the use of the tractor and the good agricultural practices that must be implemented for its safer use in the different stages such as the preparation of soil and seedlings, transplantation, fertilization, application of phytosanitary products, cultivation and hilling, and harvest ”, he explained.

Also “the risks of occupational accidents in the transplant stage and the good agricultural practices that should be implemented in this stage of production were addressed to improve the safety and health of both workers and producers who carry out this task”, added.

It should be noted that Renatre actively participated in the preparation of the “Manual of Good Practices in Virginia Tobacco Cultivation” within the framework of the Regional Quadripartite Table of Tobacco, made up of the business chambers of the sector, union representatives and administration officials. public of the provinces of Jujuy and Salta.

The manual contains the description of the different stages that make up tobacco cultivation, identifying the tasks, tools and / or machinery used in each process and, in parallel, the risks of occupational accidents that each stage entails, among other aspects of the activity. This important work is available to the entire sector on the websites of Renatre, the tobacco chambers of both provinces and South Latitude.

“This manual will be very important to improve the quality of work and raise awareness about the safety and health of both rural workers and producers who carry out their tasks in the provinces of Jujuy and Salta,” he stressed.

Jorge Rois pointed out “Renatre continues with activities at the provincial and national level, within the framework of training and training programs, with the aim of implementing concrete actions that allow rural workers to qualify their labor competencies and safeguard health and safety in the workplace “, he concluded.
