Although the reconstruction of the theater building and the endless presence of a pandemic pose additional challenges to the creative process, work on new productions will not stop, as 9 premieres are planned for the new season, including both original Latvian drama and classics, actors who are starting their full work here this season.

Martin McDon’s Black Comedy Lieutenant Inishmore will return from the theater stage to the urban environment, as the audience got to know it at last year ‘s Valmiera Summer Theater Festival – this time at 12 Plostnieku Street.
The Valmiera Summer Theater Festival takes place this year from August 6 to 8, offering 6 premieres for children, teenagers and families, several guest performances and adventures in the urban environment. The festival will invite both artists and visitors to look at the world through each other’s eyes. Performances will take place in different places in Valmiera – in courtyards, parking lots, school and elsewhere. The program will be complemented by events in the Festival Center, created by the participants of the short-term architecture and urban summer school, contemporary art workshops and other events.
In honor of the 100th birthday of the outstanding Latvian theater director Olgerts Kroders, an exhibition dedicated to the director will be opened at the National Library of Latvia on August 9. I could be a librarian, organized by Valmiera Theater in cooperation with the National Library of Latvia, thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture. Through the book, the exhibition will reflect the director’s era, his contemporaries, informative and emotional impressions. The exhibition will be on view from August 10 to October 9 in the atrium of the 1st floor of the National Library of Latvia.
