Sony has provided enough chips to produce the PS5

Semiconductor shortage crisis hit the video game and automotive industries. Console PlayStation 5 recently exceeded 10 million, but what will be the future? Sony has set a goal of shipping more than 14.8 million consoles this fiscal year. The fiscal year in Japan lasts from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

In the first quarter of the current fiscal year, 2.3 million PS5s were shipped, for a total of 10.1 million units shipped. Therefore, Sony needs to meet this goal this fiscal year to deliver another 12.5 million PlayStation 5s.

If Sony succeeds, will have a PS5 of more than 22.6 million units in March 2022. It should work. CFO Hiroki Totoki stressed that you they were able to provide enough chipsets that they needed to achieve the set sales goal. Recently, Sony representatives boasted that they produce PS5 faster than previous consoles.

Even so, Sony will not be able to meet the demand for the new generation of its console. One more important thing for Sony is the standard PlayStation 5 model is no longer sold at a loss. The digital edition, on the other hand, is well on its way to offset the loss by selling other hardware, including peripherals and the PS4 console.

As for other attractions, so The number of PlayStation Plus subscribers as of June 30, 2021 is 46.3 million. That’s 1.3 million less than in the last two quarters. This is the first time that the service has seen a significant decline between quarters during this period. The monthly number of active users also decreased compared to the previous quarter, reaching a total of 104 million. But Sony doesn’t bother with that. According to the CFO, it is caused by last year’s wave of a pandemicwhen people were more at home and played games more often. This increased the activity and the number of PS Plus subscribers, which has now decreased. But it is not about a declining trend. Compared to 2019, there has been an increase in activity this year. During the next fiscal year, Sony intends to take steps to support the activity and service of PS Plus.
