Romania, Britain and the United States have emphasized the “deliberate nature” of the attack on the Mercer Street vessel, attributed to available information from the Islamic Republic of Iran, and noted that the incident constituted a “clear violation of international law”. from BTA.

The permanent missions of Romania and Great Britain to NATO, together with the permanent mission of the United States, undertook a joint demarche within NATO in this case, the Romanian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

In this way, the other allies were officially informed about the attack on the Mercer Street vessel, in which one Romanian and one British citizen were killed, as well as about the significant developments in connection with the incident.

The three countries expressed concern that such attacks “pose a threat to peace and international security, as freedom of navigation is guaranteed by international law,” the statement said.

So far no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. It was carried out last Thursday against the tanker Mercer Street, which is owned by a Japanese company but operated by the company of Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer. The attack killed two people – a Briton and a Romanian.

Iranian authorities have ruled out any possible connection to the explosive drone attack. A foreign ministry spokesman warned that Iran would not hesitate to defend its security and its national interests.
