In a group, solo or duo, Jermaine Jackson stands out
It was in the company of four of his five brothers that Jermaine Jackson began his musical career. The Jackson Brothers thus reunite Jackie, Jermaine and Tito in 1962, before being joined by Marlon and Michael the following year. The Jackson Brothers were quickly renamed the Jackson Five, and the success was as overwhelming as it was global. Admittedly, Jermaine lost his position as leader of the group to the benefit of the already incredible Michael Jackson, yet the youngest of the group, but he copes with it perfectly. It was thus until 1976, when the group left Motown for Epic Records. Jermaine Jackson chooses, him, to remain faithful to his record company. And he embarked on a rich solo career which culminated in the 1980s. It was during this prosperous period that he signed his first outstanding duets, whether with singer Syreeta Wright, icon of soul (1982), or again Rita Coolidge with whom he recorded the cover of the title “We’ve Got Tonight” (1983).
When Jermaine Jackson meets Whitney Houston
Throughout his career, Jermaine has remained very close to his brothers, and he has had the opportunity to meet them on stage or in the studio several times. This is particularly the case in 1984 when he participated in the recording of the album “Victory”. On it appears a necessarily mythical duo, since the song “Torture” is interpreted in two voices by Jermaine and Michael Jackson who has already become a huge global star. This is not yet the case with a young singer who will cross paths with Jermaine Jackson shortly after. In 1985, he found himself alongside Whitney Houston to ensure the artistic direction of a first album soberly named “Whitney Houston”. He goes further by singing several duets with the future star, including the titles “Nobody Loves Me Like You Do” and “Take Good Care of My Heart”. The two artists will meet later on the songs “Shock Me” and “I You Say My Eyes Are Beautiful”.
More unexpected duets for Jermaine Jackson
Jermaine Jackson may have become a star in his own right and have sung with big names, his love of music pushes him to try new and sometimes unexpected experiences. This is how he notably collaborated with the Venezuelan singer Melissa, or the Moroccan Sofia Marikh with whom he performs the title “My First”. Jermaine Jackson also takes advantage of these moments to treat himself to a few duets. For the French, the most striking will undoubtedly remain the one he formed for one evening with the singer Shy’m during the Champs-Élysées show in 2011. Both took over one of Jermaine’s titles released in 1984, “When The Rain Begins To Fall” which has sold over a million copies. Jermaine Jackson also sang with the Indian Adnan Sami, a real star in her country, on the title “Let’s Go To Mumbai City” (2009). Indian singer Sonu Nigam also had the opportunity to collaborate with him, proof that Jermaine Jackson also knows how to do duets with artists other than women.
