It is noted that the samples were taken immediately after the release of pollutants from the enterprise, as well as the next day after the explosion. In total, the sampling was carried out on 11 test sites with an area of 100 “squares” by the “envelope” method.
According to the results of laboratory studies, in most of the soil samples taken, an excess of the indicators of nitrates and ammonium nitrogen was recorded in comparison with the background concentrations:
- near CJSC “Rivneazot” (500 m south-west of the plant) – nitrates by 10 times
- the city of Rivne, st. Soborna, entrance to the city from the Lutsk ring – in terms of ammonium nitrogen 1.3 times, nitrates 1.8 times;
- near the village of Zeleny Gai, on the east side – by 4.3 times in nitrates;
- near the village of Grushvitsa, from the southwestern side – 1.7 times in nitrates;
- near the village of Verkhovsk, from the southeastern side – by 1.9 times in nitrates;
- near the village of Gorodok, on the south side – 1.8 times in nitrates.
At the same time, the State Environmental Inspectorate noted that the excess of indicators in the soil can be caused not only by a volley release of nitrogen oxides into the air as a result of an emergency, but also by the result of unsatisfactory economic activity, since samples were taken in settlements of agricultural areas.
Therefore, in order to objectively consider the consequences of the accident, the inspectorate intends to study the data of “Rivneazot” regarding monitoring observations of the state of soils. In addition, the department plans to involve specialists from the State Geocadastre and the State Food and Consumer Service for repeated sampling of soil for the content of nitrogen-containing substances.
