Jorge Jesus was asked about his relationship with Rui Vitória. If the now Spartak Moscow coach said he wouldn’t talk to his Benfica counterpart, he downplayed any controversy.
“It’s been six years, I think two teams are going to face here, not two coaches,” shot Jorge Jesus, finishing off: “I respect the opponent, as well as his technical team, which is Portuguese. I would like them to have the greatest sporting successes here in Russia, from the two games we are going to have.”
In insisting, Jorge Jesus stressed: «Rui Vitória was successful at the club where I was, which was at Benfica, he also had some success outside Portugal. I hope, from the bottom of my heart, that he is champion at Spartak and that he wins every competition that exists in Russia.”
The two coaches, it should be remembered, exchanged less sympathetic words after Rui Vitória succeeded Jorge Jesus at the helm of Benfica, in 2015.
