Oslo Emergency Medical Service treated more than 400 injured after electric scooter accidents in July. The number is close to double last year.
On average, the Oslo emergency department treated 12.9 people who had been injured in electric scooter accidents every day in the past month, preliminary figures from the Oslo emergency department show.
There have been a total of 401 injuries, down from 436 in June, but still significantly higher than in the same month last year when the number was 214. A large proportion of accidents, over 40 per cent, still occur between 11 pm and 5 am. And still, over 6 percent of the injuries are serious.
Chief physician Henrik Siverts at the Oslo emergency department tells NTB that the proportion of those who come to the emergency room after electric scooter accidents has actually increased slightly in relation to other injuries.
– The electric scooter injuries were up to 7 percent of all injuries in June and up to 8 percent in July. So the proportion has actually increased a bit, even though the total number has decreased somewhat, he says.
