The clean-up is underway, but it is impossible to say how long it will take to remove the oil spill.

On Tuesday, there was a layer of brown mass in Kvadraturen in Kristiansand. In the morning, a sweeping and flushing car had a leak that led to an oil spill in an area of about 400 square meters.

– It’s very boring. The granite is only a couple of years old, so that makes the event extra cheap, says production manager in the municipality Glen Allan Eikeland.

The clean-up is underway and an absorbent has been applied, which is now absorbing the oil. This will later be washed up and removed.

– Then we will try to wash away the oil with zalo. We can use other means, but they can cause damage, so zalo is the best option, says Eikeland.

It was The Friend of the Fatherland who first mentioned the case.

It is impossible to say how long it will take to remove the oil spill, if at all possible. It can be very demanding to get oil away from granite stones due to the stone’s high density.

– I really hope we do not have to change the stone. It will be difficult to get it clean, says the production manager.

The cause of the accident is a break in the sweeper’s hydraulic hose. The car sweeps and washes at the same time, therefore the liquid had mixed with the detergent.

– That’s what happens. The driver did not discover the accident until the hydraulic tank was empty, says Eikeland.

Gyldenløves gate is closed to drivers in this area. Pedestrians and cyclists are asked to be observant and not step on the contaminated area.

– I would not recommend going by with nice clothes. There are more people washing and rinsing there now, says Eikeland.
