Salud will begin to administer the second dose of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine in a few days, of which some 483 thousand people have received first doses of this drug.
On Monday, May 17, the Ministry of Health started with the application of the first batch of Sputnik vaccines V to the population of the metropolitan region in people over 65 years of age.

Now thousands of Guatemalans are waiting to receive the second dose of the Russian vaccine, and although originally they were supposed to receive it 21 days after the first application, the health authorities increased the time to 90 days, which begin for many in August; however, they must have an appointment.
“Only in the metropolitan area more than 215 thousand doses have been applied. Practically we in the first phase during the first month were the only area that had the adequate freezers; therefore, this work is a month in advance and we are precisely what we are beginning to do, apply this second dose to all people to fulfill what was offered to them ”, indicated the director of the Central Guatemala Health area, Augusto Contreras.
“We are going to respect the 91-day rules, and practically That would mean that as of August 11, they would begin to apply them; however, we are going to start this week already applying the second dose. We are going to make this public and we invite you to enter the link www.vacuna.gob.gt, since to avoid agglomerations and disorders all the people will be summoned so that the second dose is applied ”, he added.
What to do if an appointment is not received?
According to Contreras, if some people do not receive their appointment, “they should note on the card which is the date on which they were summoned for their second dose ”; however, it appears to the first people to receive the first dose that the second dose can be applied 21 days later, so this could mean a challenge in the four vaccination posts.
In that case, Contreras assured that if these people arrive with their card at the vaccination post they will be immunized immediately.
The Health Directorate of the Central Guatemala Area has indicated that it has already begun with the logistical distribution of the second doses of the Russian vaccine, which will begin to be applied in 4 vaccination posts that have been designated by the portfolio.
These are the vaccination centers that will be enabled for second doses of Sputnik V:
- Gerona Sports Center: 15 Avenida and 13 Calle (13-52), zone 01 in the capital.
- Erick Barrondo Park: 28 Avenue, Zone 7 of the capital.
- Alida Spain: Av. Elena 14 calle, 3, Zona 3 in the capital.
- Landívar University: Vista Hermosa III, Central Campus, zone 16 in the capital.
Until this August 2, the Ministry of Health reports the application of 483 thousand 525 doses of Sputnik V, which corresponds to 26% of the doses applied; However, the country has received 960 doses of the Russian vaccine, of these only 60 thousand correspond to second doses and the portfolio does not know when more drugs will enter.
