Marcin Lewandowski had a plan for this run from the very beginning. He was saving his strength, sticking rather to the other half. At times it was even the last one. Over time, however, it began to accelerate. He used the space on the inside of the track. There was really little space there, but the real crush did not happen until the last lap. The Pole ran right into the middle, was pulled by the T-shirt, and a moment later he fell over.
Despite falling, he got up and finished the race. The producer of the broadcast, instead of focusing on the players who advanced to the semi-finals, was showing us our compatriot all the time. After it was over, Marcin Lewandowski sat down on the stairs, covered his face and disbelieved what had happened. After a few minutes, he went to an interview with a TVP Sport journalist.
– It’s a pity, because I’ve been working on it for 10 years. From the very beginning I knew that the Olympic Games in Tokyo would be my target event – said Marcin Lewandowski after the run.
Polish activists filed a protest, which was quickly examined. Fortunately, positive. The jury analyzed the video and found that he was pushed by one of his rivals. By the decision of the judges, the representative of the Polish team was allowed to continue the competition, thanks to which we will see him in the semi-finals.
Michał Rozmys also took part in the first qualifying race. The Pole was in the top six, which means that he qualified for the next stage.
