Afghan President blames US for deteriorating security situation / Article

The unexpected US decision to withdraw troops completely from Afghanistan is to blame for the deteriorating security situation in the country, Afghan President Ashraf Gani said. Afghan security forces continue to defend several of the country’s largest cities, which have been besieged by radical Taliban militants.

The Taliban have rapidly managed to gain control of much of Afghanistan in recent months.

Afghan President Ashraf Gani on Monday criticized Washington’s decision to withdraw US-led international coalition forces that had been in the country since 2001.

According to him, the US action was hasty and was used by the Taliban to strengthen its position in the country.

The shepherds said the Afghan government had drawn up a security plan that would allow it to regain full control of the country’s territory within six months. However, he did not reveal how the plan was to be implemented.

The Afghan army has said there is currently a critical security situation in the country’s three provinces – Helmand, Kandahar and Herat – as the Taliban try to occupy their centers.

CONTEXT:

The Taliban regime was overthrown in 2001 when, following the 9/11 terrorist attacks in Afghanistan, a US-led international coalition invaded Al Qaeda. Since then, the Taliban have regularly attacked Afghan and foreign soldiers, but the civilian population has suffered the most.

US President Joe Biden is determined to complete the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan until 31 August 2021. The withdrawal of the US-led international coalition force is being exploited by the Taliban, which are regaining control of more and more areas of Afghanistan.
