The death toll from the severe flooding in Henan province in Central China has risen to more than 300. Last Friday the counter stood at 99 dead.
Authorities in Henan now say 302 are dead and 50 are still missing. Most people would have died from floods and mudslides.
According to the authorities, about 250,000 hectares of land have been destroyed by the excessive rainfall. The damage is estimated at more than 90 billion yen, converted about 11.7 billion euros.
The storm was caused by Hurricane In-Fa. According to the official Xinhua news agency, more than 600 millimeters of precipitation fell in three days. By way of comparison: three weeks ago 150 millimeters fell in two days in some places in Limburg.
