The country is at the beginning of the fourth wave of COVID-19. This was announced to Nova TV by the Chief State Health Inspector Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev. He explained that for a week now there has been a steady increase in the number of infected people, reaching over 300 people per day, and by the end of this year the number of newly infected people is expected to exceed 500 per day.

Asked if a lockdown for the unvaccinated is being considered, Kunchev said that from a medical point of view it makes sense to limit the access of the unvaccinated to restaurants and other public events, because the immunized are much better protected and less dangerous to others. . “From a social point of view, I avoid making predictions and comments because society is tired of restrictive measures. Society must understand and accept what the authorities are doing,” he replied.

The new severe restrictions can be taken as a last resort for 4-5 thousand new infections a day, as in Cyprus and Malta, Kunchev said.

According to him, all the data on mortality, hospital admissions and those treated in intensive care units show that vaccination works very well for humans. “95-96% of people in intensive care units are unvaccinated,” he said.
