On the Noorderdiep in Stadskanaal, a car hit a tree so hard on Sunday evening that the engine flew out of the car. The road is littered with debris. The driver fled after the crash. Update: The man was found a few hundred yards away. He was taken to hospital by ambulance accompanied by a police car.
The car can be seen hitting a tree on the right side of the road. Tens of meters away, the car came to a stop against another tree.
The engine block of the car is next to the road. Many other parts also flew through the air.
There was no trace of the driver at first. He ran off after the crash. Police searched for the man using sniffer dogs. The man was found a few hundred meters from the scene of the accident.
A Burgernet report was made for the search for the man.
