Who is Mega Ampharos in Pokémon Go?

Originally discovered in the Johto region of Gen II, Ampharos is an electrical type that doesn’t look much like the sheep-like Mareep and Flaaffy that it evolves from. However, when Mega Evolves, Mega Ampharos regains some of its fluff. In addition to a fluffy mane and tail, Mega Ampharos also gains a Dragon type, making it one of only three Pokémon with Electric and Dragon types.

In terms of Pokémon Go, Mega Ampharos is somewhat of a disappointment so far. It has a single Legacy Dragon-type move, putting its performance far behind that of Mega Charizard X. In terms of its electrical typing, Mega Manectric outperforms it in many cases. Still, there is always the possibility of new moves, so I wouldn’t rule out Mega Ampharos for now.
What are the best counters for Mega Ampharos in Pokémon Go?
As an Electric and Dragon-type, Mega Ampharos is weak to Earth, Ice, Dragon, and Fairy-type attacks, and resists Flying, Steel, Fire, Grass, Water, and Electric-type attacks. It is capable of dealing Electric, Rock, and Fighting damage. Lacking Dragon-type moves, your best bet is to focus on the Dragon-type counters.
Garchomp

The best non-Shadow counter for Mega Ampharos is Garchomp, a Gen IV Dragon and Ground-type pseudo-legendary. His first stage, Gible, has appeared in Eggs and Raids, not to mention a Community Day, so most active players have at least one or two already activated. As a Dragon and Ground type, Garchomp resists Mega Ampharos’ Electric and Rock-type attacks, and brings no relevant weaknesses to this fight. Dragon tail Y Indignation is the set of moves you want your Garchomp to know, but if your Garchomp knows The power of the earth Don’t TM this walk away! This Legacy move works well here too and will require an EliteTM to return.
Zekrom

Pokémon White’s legendary pet Zekrom does very well in this raid. As the only other type of Dragon and Electric in Pokémon Go, Zekrom takes a quarter damage from Electric-type attacks and brings no relevant weaknesses to this fight. Unfortunately, this Legendary Pokémon was released in the midst of a global pandemic and many players don’t even have one, let alone the Candy to power it up. Still, if you have it, you will want your Zekrom to know Dragon breath Y Indignation for this Mega Raid.
Rayquaza

No list of Dragon-type counters would be complete without the Dragon King himself, Rayquaza. Flying and Dragon-type Rayquaza resists Fighting-type attacks from Mega Ampharos, but takes super effective damage from his Rock-type attack. Having appeared in various events and raids, most players already have at least one or two activated for this fight. If you’re going to bring Rayquaza to this Mega Raid, you’ll want Dragon tail for its fast movement and Indignation for his charged attack.
Haxorus

Originally discovered in the Gen V Unova region, Haxorus is the final evolution of Axew. Axew is pretty uncommon in Pokémon Go and many players still don’t have a good Haxorus powered up. As a pure dragon-type, Haxorus resists Mega Ampharos’ electric-type attacks and brings no relevant weaknesses to this raid. Dragon tail Y Dragon claw It’s the moveset you’ll want your Haxorus to know for this Mega Raid.
Salamence

Another pseudo-legendary dragon, Salamence is the final evolution of the Gen III Bagon. As Bagon has appeared in Eggs, Raids, various Events, including a Community Day, and even as Shadow Pokémon, most players already have at least a couple of Salamence lit up. Salamence takes half damage from Fighting and double from Rock. Dragon tail Y Indignation are the moves you want your Salamence to know for this Mega Raid.
Palkia

Pokémon Pearl’s legendary pet and upcoming Pokémon Shining Pearl, Palkia performs quite well in this raid. As a Water and Dragon type, it has no weaknesses or resistances relevant to this Mega Raid, and with Dragon tail Y Drake meteorite, can deal super effective damage against Mega Ampharos. He’s only had two races in Raids, but if you have one on, it will serve you well in this fight.
Dragonite

Dragonite, the pseudo-legendary Gen I, is a great pick for this Mega Raid. Having been around since the beginning of Pokémon Go, featured at a number of events, including a Community Day, in Special Research, and even as Shadow Pokémon, there is simply no good reason not to have a full Dragonite team already powered up. . As a Dragon and Flying type, he resists Fighting, while taking double damage from Rock. Dragon tail Y Indignation They’re the ideal moveset for this raid, but Dragon Claw, Dragon Breath, Dragon Tail, or Draco Meteor might all work well if you don’t have the TMs to spare.
Dialga

Latios

Another legendary on the list, Latios was originally discovered in the Hoenn region of Gen III. This Legendary Pokémon has been available multiple times, so most Trainers have plenty of Candy to power it up. As a Dragon and Psychic-type, Latios resists Fighting and Electric-type attacks and has no weaknesses that Mega Ampharos can exploit. Reshiram

Reshiram, Pokémon Black’s legendary pet, is a great counterattack for Mega Ampharos. Reshiram has only had one Raid career and that was during a global pandemic, so many players don’t even have one, let alone the Candy to power it up. Still, if you have Reshiram, this Dragon and Fire type resists Electric-type attacks, but takes double damage from Rock. Dragon breath Y Drake meteorite are the moves you want your Reshiram to know for this fight.
Mega pokemon
In a vacuum, none of the mega-evolved Pokémon that can work here compete with the best counters. However, even with its minor damage, it’s a good idea to carry one for the Mega Boost. Mega Charizard X, Mega Abomasnow, Mega Altaria, or even another Mega Ampharos will power Pokémon of the same type onto the field to perform even better, so if you can bring one, go for it. If you can coordinate with the rest of your Raid group, even better.
Backups?
While most players will be able to team up with the best counters, if you find a niche on your team, there are plenty of backups that work well in larger groups. Just make sure you dodge and any of the following could be a decent backup:

Shadow Pokémon?
The rebalancing of Team GO Rocket’s rescued Shadow Pokémon makes them excellent crystal cannons. Not only are your stats improved, but during special events or with EliteTM, it’s possible to change your moves. If you have any of the following Pokémon with the correct move set, they will perform very well in this raid:
Shadow Dragonite with Dragon Tail and Outrage Shadow Salamence with Dragon Tail and Outrage Shadow Mamoswine with Mud-Slap and Avalanche Shadow Mewtwo with Psycho Cut and Ice Beam Shadow Flygon with Dragon Tail and Earth Power Shadow Gardevoir with Charm and Dazzling Gleam Shadow Weavile with Ice Shard and avalanche
Note: Shadow Dragonite, Shadow Salamence, and Shadow Mamoswine top all other Pokémon on the list of best counters. Shadow Mewtwo and Shadow Flygon also work on par with the other top counters.
How many players does it take to beat Mega Ampharos in Pokémon Go?
While two high-level players with the best counters technically can beat Mega Ampharos, it is an extremely difficult duo Raid. Also, the faster you can complete the battle, the more Mega Energy you will be rewarded, which is why I recommend tackling any Mega Raid with as many players as you can safely gather. However, if you can’t safely coordinate with other players, you should be able to win with four Trainers.
Weather conditions that may affect this foray include:
The rain will boost Mega Ampharos’ electric-type attacks. Cloudy weather will increase your Fighting-type attacks and your Fairy-type counters. Partly cloudy weather will increase your Rock-type attacks. The wind will increase your Dragon-type counters. Snow will increase your ice type counters. Sunny / clear weather will increase your land type counters.
