Price increases record in July for consumers. In the month of the tourist recovery, prices rose almost exponentially compared to June. As it notes The printin fact, the costs for maritime transport increased by 24.7%, domestic flights by 17% and holiday villages by 15.4%. But hotels, restaurants, catering services and even the cost of air conditioners are also recording increases. The Consumers’ Union denounces, on the basis of Istat data, an unsustainable situation which weighs entirely on the population and which risks slowing the recovery.
Maritime transport is the sector with the greatest increase both compared to the previous month, with 24.7% and compared to the same month of July 2020, compared to which costs increased by 18.2%. “A beautiful and good speculation allowed by the poor competition in the field“, commented the Consumers Union. An increase that affects the budget that Italians have allocated to holidays, with a consequent reduction in expenses in other sectors. Net increase also on domestic flights, which increased by 17% compared to June 2021. International flights are also on the rise, albeit to a lesser extent, reaching + 12.3%.
An important growth, also in relation to the fact that June is considered a summer holiday month of high season. The costs of tourist villages, campsites, youth hostels and all similar structures are also growing, which increased by 15.4% compared to June. July was a month of strong increases in all items, including tourist packages. “International ones are up by 8.1%“, underlines the Consumers Union. The voice of the tourism sector that has marked a lower price increase is that of hotels, which have increased by 1.6%.
For those leaving there is also an increase in the costs of hiring means of transport but also of garages, which have grown by almost 4% compared to a month ago. The association also reports increases in sport on La Stampa. Gyms, swimming pools, sports facilities and bathing establishments recorded a + 7.5%, in addition to an increase of 4.1%. In July, diesel and petrol also increased, respectively by 2.6 and 2.4 percent. Air conditioners also grow by 1.5%. “The increases in July are very worrying, also because they add up to those of June. Furthermore, it must be considered that these are average increases. In tourist resorts, therefore, for some items such as hotels and restaurants the increases can be even triple“, he stressed Massimiliano Dona of the Consumer Union.
July was a month of strong growth on almost all fronts on a monthly basis but also on an annual basis the growth is important. The Consumers’ Union, for example, reports that compared to 2020 there has been a sharp increase in fuels, with + 16.5% for gasoline and + 16.2% for diesel. “The museums which obviously intend to recover the closing days and which, compared to July last year, have increased prices by 7.4%“, denounces the Consumers Union.
