Corona pandemic, Brexit, G7 and European Football Championship, engagement, child, wedding. For Boris and Carrie Johnson, the last few years have been turbulent, both privately and professionally. Now there is good news again for a change.
Father joys on Downing Street: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson (57) will be a dad again. These are private lines with which his wife Carrie (33) announces the good news. As private as possible on a private Instagram account with more than 5200 subscribers.
The former press spokeswoman for Johnson’s Conservative Party had already announced the name of her first son Wilfred there. Even now, it doesn’t take long for the UK media to get the word out.
But it is not a cheer like so many reports of pregnancies. Instead, Carrie Johnson adopts a humble tone. “This Christmas we hope for our rainbow baby,” writes the 33-year-old, as reported in the media and shown screenshots that are circulating on social media. Babies born after a miscarriage are called rainbow children. So it was with the Johnsons. “At the beginning of this year, I had a miscarriage that broke my heart,” the text reads.
For Johnson it is the 6th baby – at least …
But now the little son Wilfred, who was born on April 29, 2020, has a sibling. “I feel incredibly blessed to be pregnant again, but I also felt like a bundle of nerves,” writes Carrie Johnson.
“Fertility problems can be very difficult for a lot of people, especially when everything looks like everything is going well on platforms like Instagram. I found it very comforting to hear from people who have also suffered a loss, so I hope this communication can help others too. “
For the young woman it is the second child – for her husband at least the sixth. It is known that Boris Johnson’s first marriage with the artist Allegra Mostyn-Owen remained childless and that the second with the lawyer Marina Wheeler resulted in four grown children, two daughters and two sons. Rumors of at least one illegitimate child have been around for years.

Now, in a few months, the second child will follow with Carrie, whom Johnson married at the end of May. The corona pandemic had initially prevented a big celebration for the couple, who had been engaged since 2019, and it should follow in the summer of 2022. With the secret ceremony at Westminster Cathedral two months ago, Johnson became the first Prime Minister to marry in office in almost 200 years – after the Prime Minister and Carrie Symonds, her maiden name, were the first unmarried couple in the famous Number Ten seat.
Troubled times, my darling!
These are turbulent times for the couple: Brexit, a pandemic, Johnson’s severe corona illness, which he says almost cost him his life, the birth of Wilfred, the G7 summit, the European Football Championship and numerous allegations of nepotism against the prime minister and his Tories.
And Carrie Johnson was also often in the focus. She is said to have achieved that the official apartment was renovated for more money than Johnson was entitled to – the prime minister grudgingly paid the amount himself. In between, new reports came up of a year-long affair between the former mayor of London and a former foreign minister and a US businesswoman.
So finally good news again. Johnson is not the first incumbent head of government to become a dad. There were three other new fathers on Downing Street before him. The first was John Russell in the 19th century, Tony and Cherie Blair gave birth to son Leo in May 2000, and in 2010 David Cameron and his wife Samantha had their daughter Florence.
