Craig Cipriano is the MTA’s New Interim President of Subways and Buses | Univision 41 New York WXTV

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced in a statement that Craig Cipriano, president of the MTA bus company and senior vice president of the NYC Bus Department since 2019, will be the new interim president of NYC Transit.

“Craig Cipriano is a seasoned leader with many years of experience working with the MTA,” said Renae Reynolds, Executive Director of the Tri-State Transportation Campaign.

Reynolds reported that Cipriano oversaw many transformative improvements to North America’s largest bus agency, including the redesign of the Staten Island Express bus network and the deployment of real-time bus information technology in all five boroughs.

“As we emerge from the covid-19 pandemic, much work remains to be done to ensure that quality public transportation remains a fundamental pillar of New York’s success,” Reynolds stressed.

Future projects for the company include continuing with the bus network redesign process, activating boarding at all gates and establishing an implementation plan for the electrification of the fleet.

In addition, there is also the modernization of the subway signals and the accessibility of the stations must remain the main priorities of the agency.

Sarah Feinberg retires from MTA

Governor Andrew Cuomo planned Feinberg’s transition to the MTA presidency, dividing the positions of president and CEO that Pat Foye currently holds. However, the agreement met with resistance from the state legislature, which had to pass it. In the absence of a final decision, Feinberg decided to leave the MTA.

“Now is a good time to make my exit – and to find other ways to serve, if the Senate decides to act, or to or to move forward,” Feinberg told the New Yor Post.

The woman has said she is looking to spend more time with her family, especially her young daughter, as running the subway and buses is a 24/7 job.

Meanwhile, President and CEO Patrick Foye left the MTA on Friday to become Acting CEO and President of the Empire State Development Corporation.
