Marcus Vinicius D’Almeida is eliminated from the Tokyo Olympics. The Brazilian lost to Italian Mauro Nespoli 6-0 and said goodbye in the round of 16, finishing in ninth place overall after losing to the Italian in three sets, with partials of 2/0, 2/0 and 2/0.
Very moved, Marcus did not hide his frustration at the defeat, but hopes to fight for a medal at the Paris Games in 2024.
“I come from a place where being among the ten in the world is awesome. But I could go for the medal. And I still can in Paris,” said the 23-year-old Brazilian.
Marcus reached the Round of 16 after two 7-1 victories against Patrick Huston of Great Britain and Sjef van den Berg of the Netherlands. With the ninth place, the Brazilian archer now has, along with Ane Marcelle, which also ranked ninth in the Rio-2016, the best result of Brazil in the modality in the Olympics
Ahead in the competition, the Italian Nespoli yet Florian Unruh (ALE) in the quarter finals.
To dispute
Mauro Nespoli opened the dispute with 29 points (9, 10 and 10), against 28 for the Brazilian (9, 10 and 9). As in archery, each victory in a set is worth two, the Italian closed with 2-0 in the first set.
