Coca-Cola, the largest soft drink producer in the world and one of the largest brand names in the world, is now also venturing into the non-fungible token (NFT) market. Coca-Cola announces on July 28 that the company will be releasing a collection of NFTs:
Introducing the first-ever Coca-Cola NFTs! To celebrate International Friendship Day, we’ll be donating all proceeds to our longtime friend and partner @SpecialOlympics. Check them out on @opensea. #NFTCommunity #OpenSeaNFThttps://t.co/SIJ0HnNfdu pic.twitter.com/Rusj2UJuE6

The collection, called “The Friendship Box NFT,” is the first-ever “Coca-Cola NFT loot box.” The collection consists of multiple digital items, including a “Coca-Cola Friendship Card,” a “Coca-Cola Vintage Cooler” and a “Coca-Cola Sound Vizualizer.” All three NFTs are 3D animations designed by Tafi. The Sound Vizualizer also contains the recognizable sound of opening a bottle of Coke.
In addition, the collection includes a “Coca-Cola Bubble Jacket,” a digital jacket that can be worn in the virtual world of the NFT computer game Decentraland (MANA). This collection is said to be inspired by the infamous loot boxes from modern computer games and also contain “hidden surprises.”
Coca-Cola will hold an auction for its collection of NFTs on OpenSea’s NFT marketplace. The auction will start on July 30th and will run until August 2nd. People can bid with ethereum (ETH) during the auction.
All proceeds will go to the Special Olympics, an international organization for sports competitions for people with intellectual disabilities, not to be confused with the Paralympic Games. Selman Careaga, president of The Coca-Cola Company, says:
“We are excited to share our first NFTs with the metaverse, where new friendships are forged in new ways in new worlds, and to support our longstanding friend and partner, Special Olympics International. Each NFT is created to celebrate elements at the heart of the Coca-Cola brand, reinterpreted for a virtual world in new and exciting ways.”
