Digital TV Doesn’t Need Internet

Jakarta CNBC Indonesia – The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) has started a migration program for analog to digital TV broadcasts or TV broadcasts analog switch off (ASO). This policy is expected to be completed on November 2, 2022.

Expert Staff for Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Henri Subiakto, said the migration of analogue to digital TV had been wanted by the government for a long time, but was really optimistic that it would be implemented when the Law on Job Creation was enacted.

“So for 15 years we have been late in digitizing television because of the legal umbrella. In the Job Creation Act, it is stated that it must be completed 2 years after the rules are enacted. Finally, on November 2, 2022, the analog switch off must be carried out,” said Henri Subakti in the Digital TV Socialization Webinar, such as seen on the Kemenkominfo TV’s YouTube, Thursday (29/7/2021).

Henri Subakti added that in this analog to digital TV migration, there is no need for an internet network or spending money for internet credit. This program is really almost the same as the tv that is used today.

“Terrestrial analog TV when moved does not need internet, but requires a set top box for old TV sets. If the TV sets are new and ready to be digital, all you have to do is search for digital TV broadcasts,” explained Henri Subakti.

Previously, the Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny Plate, said that the migration of analogue to digital television provides benefits for the government and society. This policy can provide savings and use of the 700 MHz frequency band. The efficiency results can be used for cellular telecommunications services.

“Implementation of a digital broadcasting system will result in an efficient radio spectrum in the 700 MHz frequency band or generally known as the digital dividend. We all know that currently (700 MHz frequency band) is entirely used only for analog television broadcasts,” said Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny G. .Plate last June.

Citing data from Boston Consultant Group in 2017, Minister Johnny stated that the estimated multiplier effect that will be generated if Indonesia converts digital dividends for the needs of mobile broadband telecommunications is very large.

“In the next five years, it is expected that it will have an impact on our GDP, resulting in an increase in GDP of around Rp. 443 trillion, taxes of around Rp. 77 trillion, and no less important is the creation of more than 230,000 new jobs and 181 thousand new business units,” he explained.

For information only, digital terrestrial television broadcasting is broadcasting that uses VHF / UHF radio frequencies as well as analog broadcasting, but with digital content formats.

In analog television broadcasting, the farther away from the television transmitting station the signal will be weaker and the reception of the image will be poor and shadowy. It is different with digital television broadcasting which continues to deliver clear images and sound to the point where the signal can no longer be received.
