NANJING, July 28 (Xinhua) – The city of Nanjing, east China, has set up six inflatable laboratories to improve its nucleic acid testing capabilities after the city recently returned to COVID-19 cases.

Nanjing began building the six “Falcon” test laboratories on Sunday. Three of the laboratories started operating on Monday morning, the others should be completed by Tuesday evening.

With all six laboratories fully operational, 180,000 sample tubes can be tested daily, and when mixed sample tests are performed, the tests of 1.8 million people can be examined daily.

Nanjing, a mega-city of more than 9.3 million people, has seen more than 100 more locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since some airport workers tested positive for the coronavirus last week.

The city has launched its second comprehensive nucleic acid testing campaign, urging residents to only leave the city in an emergency.
