The City Council of Oviedo, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of the Principality, will launch, on July 9 and 10, a historical reenactment with a very special protagonist: King Alfonso II el Casto, the first pilgrim on the Camino de Santiago.
It is one more initiative within the tourist campaign “Oviedo, origin of the Camino”, which seeks to value and promote the primitive way of Santiago.
The intention is that this activity, which begins this Summer, has continuity in time. The original idea is that the main action of the program, which will take place in the Plaza de la Catedral, consists of recreating the departure of Alfonso II to Santiago de Compostela, followed by all those tourists or pilgrims who have scheduled their departure that same day and who want to participate in the event.
This year, due to the pandemic, the activity has been adapted, which will be reduced to a tour of the old town, as explained this afternoon Marga Llano, director of recreation, during her presentation.
The historical re-enactment will be on the 10th and, both on that day and on July 9, there will be medieval workshops, theatrical performances and old music. There is already a web page enabled (www.elprimerperegrino.com) and linked to the City Council portal, and a mobile application will also be enabled.
