Mobile brigades seek to increase vaccination in Ecuador

Mobile brigades will travel to rural areas and remote locations in Ecuador to increase the vaccination process with a view to meeting the goal of immunizing nine million people with full doses in the first 100 days of government, Vice President Alfredo Borrero said Thursday .

In statements to the Ecuavisa television network, he assured that as of Wednesday a total of 10.29 million people have been immunized, 8.15 million with the first dose and 2.14 million with the two doses, to which it must add 270,000 people who were vaccinated the day before.

He stressed that next week the arrival of thousands of Chinese Cansino vaccines is expected, which are single doses, and with them make “a sweep of all the people who have not been vaccinated. Fortunately, the percentage of people who do not want to be vaccinated has decreased, which makes us happy, because the only way to combat the variants of the virus is by getting vaccinated ”.

Intensive vaccination work will be carried out that begins next week, he assured, and “we have as an important component that the plan works, the logistics work and we have vaccines.”

In his recent electoral campaign, President Guillermo Lasso, in power since the end of May, offered to immunize nine million Ecuadorians by the end of August, which seemed very difficult to comply with due to the shortage of vaccines worldwide, but it seems that He managed to overcome the inconvenience and the plan is going apace.

Borrero, a doctor by profession, added that the vaccine “takes us away from the disease and away from death and the second dose is very important. Many say, I have my first dose and that is enough. The first dose in general ranges gives immunity between 35% to 45%, but with the second dose it reaches 90% or 95%. Therefore, we avoid reaching the intensive care units, we avoid getting sick ”.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, at the end of February last year, this country has registered 483,733 infected and 31,454 deaths.
