They end the project for a government skyscraper: But will they limit the damage

There may be one someday, but it will not be soon, the Commission will discuss whether the administration needs such a building.

The caretaker government has decided to suspend all actions and procedures related to the construction of a new government complex on the territory of Sofia Tech Park AD (STP AD) by the State Consolidation Company EAD (DKK EAD) until the unification of all interested departments around the specific need for its construction, said the press service of the Cabinet.

An Interdepartmental Working Group will be set up under the Minister of Economy, consisting of all interested departments, to examine the need and expediency of building a new government complex.

The working group will consider the specific requirements for working and supporting premises, their distribution and other specific features needed to develop a functional conceptual design and will present a report on its activities to the Council of Ministers for a final decision, the statement said.

The government authorizes the Minister of Economy to inform DCC and Montazhi EAD of the adopted decisions and to instruct DCC to take the necessary actions to limit the potential damage to the state and its subsidiaries, it said.

On July 23, in the first online answers to questions from citizens and the media by ministers, Kiril Petkov, caretaker Minister of Economy, said the ministry was preparing a signal to the prosecutor’s office for the “government complex in Sofia Tech Park” project. In his opinion, this project must end.

Two days earlier, Kiril Petkov revealed that 180 million in advance had already been given to the project.

“It’s worse the way they’re given. They’re given to engineering. It’s like giving you 180 million and telling you, ‘If you can design it, build it and have the supervision yours,'” Petkov told Nova. .

Earlier, on June 30, the minister spoke about the scheme for the advance transfer of money under the project: The state consolidation company has provided BGN 180 million to Montazhi, and they have transferred BGN 70 million in advance to an external company. Petkov then announced that he would talk to this external company about how to stop the project and not lose the state much.

The project itself is insane – to build a skyscraper to fill with civil servants, and the big money was paid during the pandemic, resents Kiril Petkov.

A month ago, the minister also asked why exactly “Sofia Tech Park”, where innovations should be developed, was chosen for the construction of a government building.
