“Afghanistan that does not respect the rights of its people, Afghanistan that commits atrocities against its own people will become a pariah state,” Blinken told reporters as quoted from Fox News, Thursday (29/7/2021).
Blinken’s remarks came after he visited India’s top diplomat, Foreign Affairs Commissioner Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, who is committed to working towards peace in Afghanistan through diplomatic measures.
In recent weeks, the Taliban have made great progress following the withdrawal of US troops and have controlled about half of Afghanistan’s 421 districts.
Surrounding countries have raised concerns about increasing terrorist activity that could spill over to neighboring countries.

Jaishankar called the security implications an “inevitable” side effect of ending the 20-year war and the withdrawal of US security forces.
“What was done is done,” he said calling for a diplomatic solution to increased military action.
“This is a policy taken, and I think in diplomacy you deal with what you have.”
