Scientists at the University of Göttingen in Germany have developed nanobodies that block the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and its dangerous new strains. Writes about it The EMBO Journal.
It is noted that these nanobodies are a thousand times better than their analogs, since their production costs less.
The new nanobodies are a smaller version of antibodies directed against the S-protein of the coronavirus, which is involved in the attachment of the virus to the receptors of the infected cell. They block the coronavirus binding receptor.
Nanobodies were created by immunizing three alpacas that produced mini-antibodies to the S-protein. Also, scientists have constructed triads from them, which consist of three identical nanobodies connected with each other.
“The triad corresponds to the symmetry of the three receptor-binding domains of the S-protein, which cannot be released, which increases the efficiency of neutralizing the virus by 30 thousand times compared to single bodies. In addition, in this case, the release of nanobodies from the body is slowed down, which contributes to a longer therapeutic effect, “experts say.
We will remind, earlier scientists stated that the antibiotic azithromycin, which is prescribed to patients with coronavirus does not improve their condition.
